This is my story of how I became a Certified Reflexologist.

For as long as I can remember I had suffered from allergies.  I. Like my mother, had allergic reactions to pollens.  I was also allergic to various foods.  But they were not diagnosed since food allergies were not well known in the 1950’s.  My younger years spent in Michigan as well as the West Coast and East Coast, including Florida.  Until the time I moved to North Texas, in 1979, I considered my allergies to be merely a nuisance, since most of my symptoms could be alleviated by over the counter medications.

After moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, my allergies became a severe health condition.  I lived with a constant sinus infection and almost daily indigestion after eating.  These problems persisted in spite of the fact that I had educated myself about natural food diets including nutritional supplements in my early adult years and had practiced these nutritional habits consistently.  Realizing that my problem could not be solved with nutrition alone, I consulted a M.D. Allergist in 1982 and began taking allergy shots.  The allergy shots did give me some relief, however, during the high pollen season I had major symptoms and sinus infections.  I continued the shots through December 1991 when I was laid-off from my accounting job.

Finding myself at a career crossroad, I began to seriously reflect on my life and my life purpose.  I came to a conclusion that I just did not want to pursue the accounting profession any longer.  I felt that there was something else for me, something much more satisfying and fulfilling.  I did not yet know what that profession would be, so I continued working in the accounting profession with temp agencies and contract work.

The fall ragweed season of 1992 was a very bad year for ragweed pollen.  It was at that time that I was introduced to Foot Reflexology.  A friend, who also had allergies and asthma, was receiving Reflexologies treatments from a local practitioner, Wynema Monfries, with good results.  She encouraged me to try Reflexology for myself, which I did.  Within a few weeks I started to see improvement in my general health and diminished allergy symptoms.  The Reflexologist concentrated her treatments on my sinuses, adrenal glands and digestive system.  I was very pleased with the results of the treatments.

I developed a keen interest in reflexology.  I wanted to learn more about this art that had helped me so much with my allergies.  Wynema encouraged me to take the professional training.  I attended my first class in December 1993.  I found the practice and techniques of Reflexology to be very natural for me.  I continued with my education until I became certified in December 1995.  Realizing that I had found a profession that I could actually enjoy and that would enable me to help others, I decided to develop a full time practice.  I love helping others through Reflexology and I can honestly say that it is the most satisfying thing that I have done in my lifetime.
